7 steps to loving the Premier League.

Word of notice, this post applies to you, yes YOU folks out there who try as they might, cannot bring themselves to love the world’s, no, the universe’s greatest league. Let’s see if I can try and get you drawn to the magic of top-flight English football.

Image result for kante

  1. Pick a team

A good team at that as well. Preferably teams that will bang 3+ goals each weekend and play attacking footy like Manchester City or Liverpool. But if you are one who does not love the thrill of free-flowing football and constant goals, then you can pledge your support to Huddersfield, or Fulham or Southampton, who for them, surviving in the Prem for another season is a God-sent gift from the highest heavens.

Image result for man city

2. Keep tabs on the most eccentric managers and their press conferences.

Ahh, it is truly a pity that Jose Mourinho has been given the boot recently. Or else you all would have been fortunate to witness one of the greatest, yet most weirdest coaches the Premier League has had to offer. However, since the man who commanded grudging respect at press conferences and substituted a player just 19 minutes into a match AND had a brawl with Arsene Wenger (another controversial manager), has been sacked, you guys can follow  Unai Emery and his attempt to speak fluent English, or Jurgen Klopp playing ring-around-the-roses with his ‘keeper, or Claudio Ranieri who isn’t afraid of speaking his harsh, almost rash opinion, or have a few chuckles at the harsh toned voice of Sean Dyche.

Image result for sean dyche

“I.DO.NOT.HAVE.A.HARSH.VOICE!”

3. Follow the most popular players

If you feel that on-the-pitch stuff is not worth your support, then you can turn your head to off-the-pitch stuff, particularly the flamboyant players. Paul Pogba has a huge fanbase, with his awesome hair-cuts, his shenanigans with his French compatriots, whilst N’golo Kante and Juan Mata pop up occasionally, doing nice things. Ben Mendy is more of a social media guy than a footballer, and if he is capable of teaching President Emmanuel Macron the dab, then he must be a guy to keep tabs on once in a while.

Image result for ben mendy macron

4. Buy a jersey.

With your own money. Should be one of your favorite team. If possible you can become a jersey collector. You will beam with pride wearing it when going of to watch a match, or showing off your fabric jewels to your jealous pals.

Image result for man utd jersey

5. Find the team you hate.

You’ll love the PL more if you identify a squad that annoys you to the fullest. Some people, especially Manchester United fans loathe their neighbors Manchester City for that Aguero goal that took the title from the red side of Man City to the sky-blue section in the dying minutes if a crackling game. Arsenal fans in turn hate Man United for ending their 49 game unbeaten run. Chelsea fans hate Liverpool FC for the “ghost goal” that knocked them out of the Champions League. Spurs hate Leicester City and Arsenal for the season of 2015-16. Some people also hate teams because of certain players (and managers), such as Ruud van Nistelrooy, Mario Balotelli, Luis Suarez, Harry Kane(temporarily) and Jose Mourinho.(He knows it’s true.) And some people hate teams because of their ugly, ugly, ugly jerseys.

6. Listen to the PL Soundtrack

Always updated every week, with the latest hits, and the iconic PL theme song is there, at the top of the list. You’ll love it.

These 5 EPL Players Should Be Given New Contracts

Hallo. I’ve got two dares for you to take on today. Try balancing a golf ball on the tip of your nose. And the other? Check out this post on crucial players who must not be allowed to leave their clubs

  1. David de Gea. (Manchester United).

Related image

Manchester United fans are still tearing their hair out on the fact that their club has been able to secure Chris Smalling and Ashley Young new contracts but haven’t been able to pin down their most important players to new contracts.

David de Gea, their Spanish savior, the man who has rescued points for the red side of Manchester, is one player who they should certainly secure at the club for a few more years, as there are few who can replace arguably the best keeper in the world.

United have reportedly triggered his one-year extension, but if they don’t want PSG or Juventus to be sniffing around his door, they better have a good sit down with Jorges Mendes on how much the Spaniard should be pocketing.

  1. Christian Eriksen (Tottenham)

Image result for eriksen

“Fly in my eye! Fly in my eye!”

Harry Kane may be one of the best strikers PL fans have seen, but the Englishman has the constant service his team always gives him.

One man who provides Kane with chances to score is Danish Christian Eriksen, a man who has the ability to whip in good crosses, play wondrous passes and score absolute beauties that have made him a cult hero in North London.

His contract runs out soon, and Pochettino should be constantly harassing Daniel Levy to sort out the paperwork for one of the best number 10s in the world.

  1. David Luiz (Chelsea).

Related image

Maurizio Sarri seems to have halted interest in world-class center-back Koulibaly, especially as he recently committed his future to Napoli.

This is probably due to the fact that Brazilian David Luiz has shown that he is still one of the best CBs a round, and is challenging Sammer as the best frizzy haired sweeper ever to grace the field.

However Luiz will be out of contract in the summer and many clubs will be watching his situation with keen interest, unless the Blues feel it is necessary to negotiate with the Brazilian to stay at the Bridge longer.

  1. Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal).

Image result for aaron ramsey

Arsenal look like they have given up on the Welshman’s case regarding a contract, especially with news of Juventus ready to pry the Welshman away to improve their stellar squad even further.

However, Unai Emery lacks players with the work ethic of Ramsey, a box-to-box player who is capable of stealing back balls from an opponent and contributing wholeheartedly when his team has the ball.

A servant of the Gunners for years, Arsenal will feel gutted if Ramsey trades the white and red shirt for something else and for a small price for that matter.

  1. Vincent Kompany (Man City).

Image result for vincent kompany

“Forget Vince Staples, its Vince K who’s the real deal.”

Manchester City look like they won’t miss club great Kompany should his contract expire come the summer, as they have Stones, Laporte and Otamendi and this forgotten guy, Mangala to replace the Belgian. However Vincent is only in his early 30s, and having him in the club for a few more years won’t hurt, as he is a major influence on this young City side and a true leader of men.

That’s it for now. You disagree with my list? You all know the drill. Send your opinions about this piece in the comment box below, make yourself a sandwich and read the rest of the posts. Ciao.

EPL Players their country should call up more often.

Y’ello all ye football lovers (and those who haven’t a foggiest clue what this sport is all about). On today’s menu all we’ve got prepared is a list of top PL players who should get more recognition from their country. Bon appetite.

  1. Aymeric Laporte

You’ve must have heard this man’s case so many times, but it’s one hard to ignore. Aymeric has been key to City’s several clean sheets, with his calmness on the ball, his upper-body strength and his ability on the ball.

Pep Guardiola has even added his voice, saying that he would be called up for France soon enough as he is one of the best in his position. Aymeric himself must be wondering how many champagnes Didier Deschamps drinks every night, as Crystal Palace Sakho and veteran Adil Rami have been called up to replace Varane and Umtiti temporarily ahead of him, but it is only a matter of time before the World Cup winning coach picks the Basque-born center-back.

Image result for felipe anderson

  1. Felipe Anderson.

If Anthony Martial and Kingsley Coman must have been cursing the fact on how talented their national team is, then Anderson must be heaping thunderstorms after thunderstorms on how ridiculously good Brazil is.

In a squad where Neymar, Douglas Costa and co. are the favored left wingers in La Selecao, Anderson game time as a Brazilian looks limited. However Tite, in his spare time should watch the afro-haired midfielder on his day, when he is capable of bamboozling defenders, picking out his teammates and scoring great goals.

If West Ham are capable of snagging a European spot or finishing in the top half of the table, then the Brazilian tactician should consider letting Anderson wear the famous yellow shirt more often.

Image result for abdoulaye doucouré

“Digging the trim”

  1. Abdoulaye Doucoure

Another man who has to bear the consequences of a squad that has much more talented players in his position. France boast of having Pogba, Kante, Matuidi, N’Zonzi, Ndombele and more in the position Doucoure plays, but if Didier gave Digne, Sakho, and Adil Rami chances to play, then the big midfielder at Watford should get a taste of international football more often.

Image result for michael keane

  1. Micheal Keane

England fans may be satisfied with Harry Maguire and John Stones as their first-choice center-backs, but a few might agree that Gary Southgate should consider the former Manchester United center-half as a man that should don the white shirt of England more often.

Keane has proved that he can still play first-team for Everton even with the purchase of Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma, and despite the occasional mistakes, he deserves at least a spot on the bench in Southgate’s improving side.

Image result for erik lamela

  1. Erik Lamela

The return of Heung-min Son and the form of Lucas Moura has once again limited the Argentine Ronaldo’s game time, but is hard to not admit that Lamela has been one of the stand-out performers of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, with goals and assists now being added to his intelligent play.

With Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria approaching the end of their prime as superstar wingers and Argentina in desperate need of replacements to maintain their reputation as one of the world’s greatest footy sides, Lamela should be considered in their developing process.

Image result for leroy sane

  1. Leroy Sane

The German winger has proven once more why Fifa gave him an 86 rated card in their latest game, with his ability to take on full-backs with the most magical way possible, his vision and his good finishing, making him a vital player to Pep’s plans.

However Joachim Lowe prefers Marco Reus and Julian Draxler to the lanky speedster. However, with Sane’s form consistent these days, Low should really consider Leroy in his plans for 2019.

Related image

  1. Ander Herrera

The smallish Spaniard is often unrecognized for his works at Manchester United and was largely underused in Mourinho’s late spells at Manchester United.

However with the arrival of the baby-faced assassin, Herrera has been a force to be feared, with his determination to win the ball anytime his side loses it, and his ability to put the ball into the final third or to create chances (like that assist he gave to Paul Pogba against Bournemouth.)

Though Luis Enrique’s goal is to introduce to the La Roja squad youthful prospects that can build the team, he should at least recognize what Herrera has done over the past games.

Image result for alexandre lacazette

“The dab’s old now Alex”

  1. Alexandre Lacazette.

Olivier Giroud may be Les Bleus first-choice striker in the eyes of Didier Deschamps, but the gigantic forward is turning 33 soon and his ageing legs might mean that Deschamps might turn to other options to replace one of his all-time favorites.

Karim Benzema, Anthony Martial and Gignac are all capable of taking up the no.9 role, but in truth the man who should take up that role in PL Analysis perspective should be Lacazette.

The French striker is amongst the goals once more, and has formed a Cole-Yorke relationship with Aubameyang. He would do further wonders for Les Bleus should Didier pick the bearded forward more often.

That’s it for now. If you think there are any more players in the PL that should be called up by their national team more often, feel free to say so in the comment box below, or send your precious opinions to the email address kelideyict@gmail.com. Happy New Year. Keep reading.

EPL Star Focus (PART 5): Sterling, Firmino, Mo Salah.

Hello. As we say goodbye to a fabulous 2018, let’s pause and take a moment to observe the best forwards of the season so far and conclude EPL Star Focus.

Related image

Forwards: Raheem Sterling, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah.

These, to PL Analysis, have been the best trio of forwards the PL has had to offer so far. Raheem Sterling, despite his other matches where City were cursed with the injury of their beloved Fernandinho and a tight match at good old Stamford Bridge, has been sublime.

Under Guardiola’s superb tutelage, especially in City’s prime when they won the title in style, breaking countless of records, Raheem has taken his game to a new level, combining his Sonic-like pace, fast feet, his small frame and his decent vision with clinical finishing and unselfishness to lay it on for others to score.

Sterlz has been a Guardiola regular, and has repaid his manager’s faith with goals, assists and a Player of the Month award as well. If only City hadn’t crumbled in December. Who knows? Raheem could have been an early contender and snatched that Player of the Year Award out of Mo Salah’s hairy hands.

Contenders to Sterling’s crown: Son, Hazard, Richarlison, Deleufou.

Image result for firmino

“Man that is a good pic of me!”

Roberto Firmino, or Bobby, as he is called by the Kop, is not your typical striker. Frankly, till about last week, PL Analysis were looking at Aubameyang, Harry Kane or Raul Jiminez to snag this place, as they do what strikers are expected to do: score goals.

As we took time off to buy hot-dogs and watch the league leaders stroll past Newcastle, then Arsenal, we saw this weird-haired lanky guy, working his socks off to get himself space, to create chances so his colleagues could score,  striding back into his own half to steal the ball from his opponents,  leaving defenders on their backs with some expert trickery before scoring a Henry-esque goal, we knew that Berbeto deserved this position.

He’s one of the key players who’ve gotten Liverpool to where they are now. So Bobby, this is for you. Nope, still no award. Not there yet bro.

Contenders to Bobby’s crown: Aubameyang, Kane, Jiminez, Aguero, Wilson.

Image result for mo salah

“Boss mode on”

And finally, the man himself. The man who scored 32 record PL goals last season, earning himself the golden boot and Player of the Year Award. The man who was tagged a one-season wonder, but is leading the goal charts with 13 goals, and has a decent number of assists.

The man who lives up to his chant sung by his faithful fans, running down the wing, before bamboozling full-backs then scoring great goals. The man who gave up the chance of ending 2018 as the sole leader of the most goals, by handing a penalty he could’ve scored to Roberto Firmino, who was on a hat-trick.

The man who is learning the dark arts of diving. The man who seems not too pleased with having to battle his way to the first team with the Alpine Pele. Ladies and Gentlemen, give it up for the man: Marcus Rashford.

Oh wait, it’s not Rash. Ohhhh, sorry. I meant Mo’ Salah everyone. Mo Salah it is. #SteveHarvey.

Other options to The Egyptian King’s crown: Riyad Mahrez, Willian, Shaqiri, Helder Costa.

So that’s it for EPL Star Focus. For now at least.  Happy New Year to all of you loyal followers and new fans. Spread the word and keep reading.

“I whip my hair back and forth.”

Arsenal v Fulham

1 January 2019, 15:00 GMT

This is a vital match for both teams. The Gunners look to shrug off a bad December, and an even worse visit to Anfield with a win over second to last Fulham.

This is because a draw or even a defeat gives sixth placed Manchester United the chance to catch them and fourth place Chelsea the extra screw to tighten their place on a Champions League spot.

Unai Emery would look to make changes to his squad, and work extra hard on the training ground to improve finishing and constant creating of space on the pitch.

Ranieri will be looking to build on a hard earned win against Huddersfield and to cause an upset at the Emirates. Expect a do or die performance from both sides.

Prediction: Arsenal should edge this match 2-0.

FPL Tip: Buy/Keep Alexandre Lacazette for this game. Should be introduced to the squad on Tuesday, and is most likely to score a goal.

“Who are you looking at Marcos?”

Chelsea v Southampton

2ND January, 19:45 GMT

A good game as Chelsea will be looking to cut the gap to the top three, especially after Spurs’ surprise loss to Wolves on the 30th of December.

Chelsea will be looking to find consistency, a tool desperately needed if they want a Champions League spot next year and to even mount a surprise title challenge.

Ralph Hassenhuttl must be gutted that he has to face so many top sides in the space of two weeks, but will nevertheless try to cause an upset at the Bridge, as the Saints look a new side with the German in charge.

Prediction: 1-1

FPL Tip: Sell Alex McCarthy. He hasn’t kept a clean sheet in quite a while, and don’t expect him to do so when the Saints travel to London.

Image result for david de gea

Newcastle v Man United

3rd January, 20:00 GMT.

If Rafa Benitez wants to keep his credentials as one of the top coaches around, he should at least coax his side into winning, and winning comfortably. Newcastle looked set for a win against the Hornets had it not been that last gasp equalizer from Doucoure.

Now Rafa takes the Toon to a side he knows all to well, a side who he has seen memorable wins against but also a side that has ruthlessly crushed his hopes once before.

Man United look a better team with interim manager Solskjaer at the helm, and are the favorites to win this encounter, but don’t rule out Rafa and Newcastle from taking the game to United.

Prediction: 4-1 to Man United

FPL Tip: Sell all your United defenders and probably David de Gea. They may getting clean sheets in the near future, but not now I’m afraid.

“Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!”

Man City v Liverpool

3rd January, 20:00 GMT.

The match that might determine where the title heads to. City hope to cut the gap between top-of-the-table Liverpool with a win, but Klopp’s boys will look to preserve their unbeaten status and beat the Cityzens, and put themselves in the driver’s seat of this hot title race.

City have the potential to bring the ball into dangerous areas, and the deadliness of Argentine Sergio Aguero is constant threat, but Liverpool have their troublesome trio, and the Alpine Pele on standby. Expect a real cracker of a match.

Prediction: 3-2 to City

FPL Tip: Buy Mo’ Salah. The numbers speak for themselves.

That’s it for now. Happy New Year to all you reading (or glancing through). We appreciate you. We really do. Keep reading.

EPL Star Focus (Part 4): Gomes & Silva

Happy Sundays people. Welcome to part four of the beloved EPL Star Focus, where we toil as hard as we can to present to you who we feel have been the best players of this season so far. Disagree with our picks all you like. We run the show here. So get ready for EPL Star Focus IV!

Image result for andre gomes

Andre Gomes (Central Midfielder)

This guy is one of the privileged few who can tell their kids that they’ve had the opportunity to play with the best soccer players in the world for the past decade: CR7, or C. Ro as they call him in Ghana, and Leo Messi.

The Portuguese enjoyed a rapid rise to professional footy, playing at a young age for Valencia C.F., dominating the midfield for Portugal as they took Europe by storm in 2016, and signing for one of the best clubs in the world.

But, unfortunately, there’s always someone who will be better than you, and Gomes experienced that quote by playing second fiddle to Iniesta and Rakitic.

After 2 years, he couldn’t warm the bench forever, and with the thought of his career slowly rotting away (like that of Arda Turan and Jeremy Mathieu), he choose to join the Toffees and show the world the silky midfielder he was once admired for being.

Fast forward to today, and you can just about say that Gomes made the right decision. He has impressed Goodison Park with his supreme attention to detail, his vision and his ability to create space and chances for his teammates.

He has had one assist so far, 623 passes and a pass average of about 52 per game. (He’s played only 12 games, mind you).

He’s created chances and has played 54 accurate long balls. He is not afraid to take a pop at goal, as his 12 shots show. He’s not shabby in defence, as his 44% tackle success rate, 88 recoveries, 21 successful 50/50s and his 17 successful aerial duels show.

As the end of the season approaches, Everton might have two things on their short-term to-do list: qualify for Europe and sign the Portuguese flair man permanently.

Image result for david silva

David Silva (Central Midfielder)

Jamie Carragher made a bold claim when he said David Silva will take home the Player of the Year Award, especially with the performances of Liverpool’s frightening front three, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, who to me is the third best ‘keeper in the league. (It takes a lot more than positioning and good distribution to overthrow DDG and Ederson pal).

But we here can say that as the year draws to a close, David Silva has been the best midfielder in the PL this season.

With the absence of Kevin de Bruyne’s, a man crucial to City’s tital defence, Silva and Bernado Silva have had to take on the responsibility of creating constant chances whilst bossing the midfield, and the Silva brothers have done it without cease. Particularly David, who combines dazzling dribbles, his low centre of gravity and his vision to keep City’s title dreams alive.

He’s had 6 goals, one more than Alvaro Morata, including a whizzer of a free-kick. He’s set up two goals, and in 16 matches, the smallish Spaniard has made close to 1,000 passes. He’s created 7 big chances and has whipped in over 40 crosses. The pass king, as he referred to by young City fans, has had 5 through balls and 17 accurate long balls. But these stats only belittle his genius.

If you want to see pure Silva, watch his highlights against Huddersfield or Southampton at the Etihad in 2018. You’ll be awed. I guarantee.

Other options: Fabinho, Rejuvenated Paul Pogba, Kante, Eriksen, Bernado Silva, Joao Moutinho

That’s it for EPL Star Focus IV. Come back to see the final three spots up for grabs, and a glance at the full team. And take a peep at earlier posts as well. Merry Christmas and keep on reading.

Fulham v Huddersfield

December 29, 15:00 GMT.

Last v Last but one may be a dull game, but both teams are looking for a place out of the bottom three, with immense pressure on the heads of gaffers Claudio Ranieri and David Wagner.

The Cottagers leap-frogged the Terriers with a narrow draw against Wolves, whilst Huddersfield suffered a 3-1 loss to a seemingly revitalized Manchester United, though it could’ve been a different result if David de Gea didn’t do what he usually does.

Ranieri will be hoping his big man up front Aleksander Mitrovic will be back amongst the goals, and his star midfielder Jean Seri will step up to dictate games like he did back at France. He will also be hoping to count on his defence to be solid.

Wagner will be hoping for a sturdy display from his men, with stars like Depoitre to put on a performance worthy of their fans’ approval.

Should be a great match.

Prediction: 2-2

FPL Tip: Back your bucks on Schurrle (5.7 Pounds). Ranieri will be looking to unlock Wagner’s stubborn defence and the versatile World Cup winning midfielder could do just that.

Image result for harry kane

Spurs v Wolves

December 29, 15:00 GMT.

With Liverpool up against Arsenal and City travelling to a new-look Southampton, Tottenham will look to make mincemeat of Wolves, but Pochettino’s men shouldn’t approach the game too easily.

Wolves has had a habit of frustrating the big sides this season: Drawing with Everton, Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal, beating Chelsea and narrowly losing to Spurs and Liverpool.

Nuno Espirito’s men like to press high and pass with purpose, and with players like Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho who have the creative touch and Jiminez a decent striker, expect Lloris and his back four to be greatly troubled. However Spurs are in good form, with Son, Kane and Eriksen consistent and the whole team working together as a unit.

With both sides known for playing attacking footy, expect a crackling match.

Prediction: 4-2 to Spurs.

FPL Tip: Buy/Keep Heung-Min Son (8.7 Pounds). The South-Korean is expected to keep his blistering form up, so expect him to be amongst the goals or setting them up during the match.

Image result for emery klopp

Liverpool v Arsenal

December 29, 15:00 GMT

If both managers are not kicking water bottles or running to play ring around the roses with their goalies, then we should expect a match involving drama between the players.

Liverpool are still unbeaten as we enter the second half of the season, and will be looking to not drop any points as they chase their very first PL Crown. Arsenal will be looking to break free of their recent slump and return to winning ways, as recent results have cost them a much deserved place in the top-four.

Liverpool will be depending on Mo Salah to deliver the goals and a sturdy defence to keep out the likes of top-scorer Aubameyang and Lacazette. Arsenal will be backing their two strikers to flourish and Mesut Ozil to man up and adapt. The Gunners will also count on Sokratis to sort out his defence and keep out Liverpool’s magical three. (And Big Shaq).

A smashing game to the end the year.

Prediction: 2-2

FPL Tip: Buy Aubameyang. (11.5 pounds). We fancy Auba to be the striker to trouble Liverpool’s defence. Take this risk and reap the rewards. Ugh. That sounds like a quote from a motivational book.

Image result for zaha

Crystal Palace v Chelsea

December 30, 12:00 GMT.

London derby calls and our eyes are urged to watch. Chelsea look to go on a run with their opposition lacking the quality to disturb them.

Despite Morata and Giroud’s bad form, Chelsea have Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian, a front three capable of tearing up defences, a reasonably good midfield and a defence beginning to gel.

Crystal Palace, after their stunning win against City last week will be looking to upset yet another big side, as they look towards safety amongst opponents who all have the same goals. Good game beckoning.

Oh, and one more thing. Dazet Wilfried Armel Zaha, please don’t go to China.

Prediction: 2-1 in favor of the Blues.

FPL Tips: Buy Hazard (11.0 pounds). The Belgian just scored his 100th and 101st goal, and will be expected to turn up against Palace.

Image result for de bruyne

Southampton v Man City

December 30, 14:15 GMT

FourFourTwo says City would have been wishing for Mark Hughes to be in charge of the Saints for a little bit longer. They’re not far wrong, as the Saints look completely different under Ralph Hassenhuttl, playing without fear and taking the game to their opponents.

Key players like Holjberg and Danny Ings seem better, which is a worry for Guardiola’s men, who are in a rut, largely due to the unavailability of Fernandinho.

City, even without the Brazilian, would be hoping to win nevertheless, to keep things close with Spurs and Liverpool.

De Bruyne is gaining fitness and Aguero has returned to the squad, so expect a die-hard performance from the Sky-Blues.

Prediction: 3-2 to City.

FPL Tip: Buy Kevin de Bruyne (9.7 Pounds). Should expect a Raumdeuter performance from the Belgian maestro, with at least an assist to help better his team.

Image result for pogba

Man Utd v Bournemouth

December 30, 16:30 GMT

Ahh, its nice to see Man Utd playing attacking football that you’d associate them with in the distant past. Pogba playing with much more freedom, Victor Lindelof playing like the center-back he was highly rated as back in Sweden, and the English academy graduates playing the United way.

Though its only been two games, Solskjaer deserves the credit of gelling the team, giving everyone a chance and allowing them to play good football without cannon-balls tied to their legs.

They should be looking to put on a show against the Cherries, but Eddie Howe’s men are an unpredictable bull, and can take the game to others when they so please.

With Brooks and Wilson on the Cherries’ side, expect a game full of goals.

Prediction: 3-1 to Man United.

FPL Tip: Buy Pogba (8.0 Pounds). Shame that only a week ago we tagged him as inconsistent. Pogba seems back to his best and back him to put on a classy show at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Merry Christmas. Keep on reading. Try saying that with an Elvis-like voice while you are at it.

EPL Star Focus (Part 3): Azpilicueta & Fernandinho

Buena noches readers and welcome to part 3 of EPL Star Focus, where we work our striped socks off to present to you who we think deserves the title of best player in their various positions in the PL so far. And if you disagree, write us a letter or an email. We will happily not read it. So, without much ado, EPL Stars III.

Image result for azpilicueta

Cesar Azpilicueta (Right-back)
Forget it Liverpudlians. Those of you who thought Alexander-Arnold will easily top this list were wrong. The English international may be good, scoring free-kick beauties and superbly marking Neymar in the Champions League, but he is not someone you can confidently tag as Mr. Consistent.

So we turn our heads to arguably one of the best center-backs of last year, who is now playing his former trade as a full-back to suite Sarri’s needs.

And, in a team who are trying to find constant success in their individuals, with David Luiz sometimes sluggish, N’golo Kante confused, Jorginho tired and Morata and Giroud lacking the strikers touch, Cesar has still maintained the levels his 86 rated card in Fifa 19 recquires of him.

He’s been vital to Chelsea’s 8 clean sheets, where only 16 goals has been shipped into Basque-born Kepa’s net. He has an impressive 62% tacking success rate, has blocked 2 shots, 18 interceptions and 35 clearances.

He’s won 89 duels and has had 6 successful 50/50s. An excellent defender like him hasn’t had any own-goals, nor any errors leading to goals. His attacking side boasts of 2 assists, 1306 passes, has created 4 big chances, 68 crosses, with a 22% successful crossing rate. He’s also had 19 accurate long-balls.

These stats should have won you hater to Cesar’s side. He deserves this. Felicidades Cesar. Yeah, I know. Yo hablo Espanol.

Other options: Alexander-Arnold, Trippier, Diogo Dalot.

Image result for fernandinho

Fernandinho (Central defensive midfielder)

Karma exists. Let me tell you why. Almost a year ago, Pep Guardiola told the press that Spurs is a Harry Kane reliant team. Though that may have been true last year, it certainly is not the case now, as Spurs are thriving as a team as they chase Liverpool for their first ever PL Crown. City however seem to be crumbling.

This is partly due to fatigue, and the absence of certain players, including David Silva and this certain Brazilian baldie called Fernandinho.

Fernandinho is confidently now the best dirty business man in the PL as the former heir to that crown, Kante, is now the victim of change. He does the work of two men, and is vital to the way City plays.

Before we move on to his dirty work, we must say he is a pretty decent attacker, with a goal to his name and five shots on target. He’s had 3 assists and over 1200 passes. He’s created 3 big chances and has had over 46 long balls find their man.

Now to what he does best. He’s made 36 tackles, and has a stunning 83, yes 83%, tackling accuracy. He’s had 26 interceptions, 45 clearances, a 106 recoveries, 101 duels won and successful 50/50s.

He’s truly a man to marvel. However He’s 34 years and can’t be doing this forever. So this might be his first and last time he might be on this list as a young Uruguayan prepares to take the mantle of the best defensive midfielder.

Other options: Lucas Torreira, Gana, Sissoko, Doucoure.

EPL Star Focus (Part 2): Van Dijk & Laporte

Y’ello. Welcome to Part 2 of EPL Star Focus. Today you’ll have an insight into the best center-halfs in the PL so far. So without further ado, focus your eyes to the rest of the story.

  1. Virgil Van Dijk (Center-Back)

Around last year at this time, Virgil van Dijk was being pursued by Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea to be their center-back as each team sought the Dutch-born, pony-tailed, buff defender to be the rock of their team.

Virgil went to Anfield for a record 75 million pounds. He had the perfect debut, playing a vital role in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over their Merseyside rivals Everton, and even snagging a late goal for himself.

We all know what happened next. VVD is now the rock of the Reds, his self-imposed leadership and his great performances have seemingly inspired his defensive teammates around him, and is not afraid to get the goals if he is in the position to do so.

Van Dijk is even tipped to be the player of the year this season, but we’ve seen so many Liverpool players perform awesomely then wither, almost “slip up”, when it matters most: Torres back in 2009-10, Gerrard in 2013-14.

We can’t assure that now, but we can confidently say that Virgil is the best center back in the PL right now.

“Darn it! I got a booger in my nose”

  1. Aymeric Laporte (Center-Back)

Like David Luiz, Aymeric is not the best old-fashioned aggressive center-back you’ll expect, sticking his head into any duel, barging players off the ball almost every time, and punting balls anywhere after nicking it back from strikers.

But, like the afro-haired Brazilian, Aymeric is confident to play football. So calm and composed on the ball, the French international has this Koeman aura around him, playing constant diagonals to his fellow full-backs, unafraid of taking on his opponents, and has the ability to play sensational passes that lead to goal-scoring opportunities.

And despite City’s poor run of results so far (Partly due to Fernandinho’s unavailability), Laporte must be singled out for his great contributions and his all-round performances as City hold  clean sheets so far.

Don’t worry big guy. Deschamps will notice you. He will.

Other options: Alderweireld, Joe Gomez, Mina.

Come back tomorrow to see Part 3 of EPL Star Focus. The formation is 4-3-3. (And 1. Keepers. So sorry you’ve been forgotten). Merry Christmas. Keep reading.

“Better hope I’m in this list, for your own sake”

  1. Ben Foster (Goalkeeper)

In our goalie position, we’ve thought long and hard and come to the conclusion that not Alisson, not de Gea, not Ederson and not Rui Patricio deserve this spot.

Though they’ve all individually played an important role in their clubs so far, 35 year old Benny Foster deserves to be goalie of the 2018/19 season as it stands.

Gareth Southgate must be chewing furiously on his waistcoat that Big Ben doesn’t want a shot at international footy anymore, especially after Jordan Pickford’s recent poor form, because Foster has played an instrumental role in Watford’s current success and their hunt for a European place.

He’s now the Hornets no.1; Gomes now out of the spot, as his 18 appearances suggest. He’s made a whopping 49 saves, more than Kepa, Ederson, Alisson and Lloris, though these four don’t suffer the curse of playing with a back four of Kabasele, Cathcart and co. ( No offense big guys.).

Foster’s also made a penalty save, one that shocked Gylfi to the core, with his outstretched leg thumping the Iceland international’s kick away.

He’s had no errors leading to goals, has showed his ability to be a modern keeper with 20 sweeper clearances and his 165 accurate long balls.

But mere stats don’t show how good Ben is. His all-round performance against West Ham, including a De-Geaesque save to Snodgrass’s bullet header. Kudos Ben. You’ve deserve this. No award though. We’ve not got there yet.

Other decent options to this throne: Alisson, Rui Patricio and Joe Hart.

2. Andy Robertson. (Left-back)

If gwara-gwara dancing, World Cup winning Benji Mendy was still fit, this spot would have been all his. Alas, Injuries came to tango with the Man City left-back, so the Scotland captain will take his place instead.

Andy has been an absolute revelation following his move to Anfield from KCOM Stadium. He’s been the left back right wingers and right-backs fear, with his explosive pace, stamina, decent control and his pinpoint crossing.

He’s been a factor in Liverpool’s 11 clean sheets, with only 5 goals being shipped into Alisson’s net. He has a tackling accuracy of 62%, a 104 recoveries and has won 64 duels. He’s had no errors leading to goals and despite his short frame has won 7 aerial duels. But these are his defensive stats. He’s had 3 assists, over a 1000 passes, has created six big chances, 53 crosses, a 15% cross accuracy, and 33 accurate long balls. He’s also hit the wood-work once.

This is Andy Robertson. At least for Liverpool. For Scotland he’s been far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, poorer. But this is a PL analysis site, not a UEFA Nations League one, so congrats Robby. This place is for you.

Other reasonable options: Chilwell, Shaw, Mendy, Marcos Alonso.
